Last week John Wearda, MAX Regional Sales Manager, participated in a volunteer cleanup following the derecho storm that pummeled Iowa on August 10th.  John's contact was Christine Oshel, a former classmate who lives in Cedar Rapids and a member of King of Kings Trinity Lutheran Church.  Their church has a Disaster Relief Team, a group of volunteers who respond in times of crisis.

John wrote the following:

Here it is 8 days after the devastating storm and over 30,000 are still without power.  We know from news reports and the pictures shared on social media that the winds from that day caused never before seen damage and destruction.  What impressed upon me was the expanse of the damage…  It just goes on and on.  Street after street after street has mountains of brush, rubble, and garbage stacked along the roadways, waiting to be hauled away.  So much is left to clean up, so many without the resources to do so.  It’s heartbreaking.

Volunteers and donations are needed and greatly appreciated.
