MAX Vision and Mission

Our vision is creating and sustaining wholeness. What exactly does that mean for an insurance company? Well, the term wholeness refers to being complete, fulfilled and capable of living a healthy, happy, balanced life. At MAX, we believe the security and protections we provide through our products, services and Mutual Aid Ministries can help our members protect, create and sustain wholeness in their personal and professional lives.

Our mission states that we live out our vision of wholeness by preserving and restoring property, lives and communities through fair, faithful and socially responsible insurance programs, and Mutual Aid Ministries. We stand alongside our members as they create, build and sustain a life for themselves and their families. To do this, we educate our members to protect and preserve what they have through careful maintenance and safety precautions, and when there is a loss, we partner with them to help replace and restore wholeness in their lives. In extreme cases of loss or financial calamity, our unique Mutual Aid Ministries program is there to “Care Beyond the Contract”.

Thank You MAX Members

As we approach St. Patrick’s Day, the term “lucky” comes to mind. But what does luck have to do with insurance? Insurance for your home is something you should have to protect your home and belongings – it’s more of a necessity rather than something you find at the end of a rainbow in a pot of gold, right?
Well, yes, homeowners insurance is a necessity. However, at MAX, we feel lucky, or perhaps the word blessed is a more appropriate term, to have members who trust us as their provider of home insurance. Without our members, MAX would not exist. So, thank you MAX members for choosing MAX as your homeowners insurance carrier.

MutualAid eXchange (MAX) is First Full-Service Insurance Provider to be Named a Certified B-Corporation

B Corp Logo(Overland Park, KS) – Consumers who prefer doing business with conscientious, socially responsible companies, now have a nationally recognized company for their auto, home, business, farm and other property/casualty insurance needs.

Overland Park-based MutualAid eXchange (MAX) insurance (www.maxinsurance.com) was recently named a Certified B Corporation because of its commitment to fair, faithful and socially responsible business practices.

Who Is MAX?

MAX is a member-owned full-service insurance enterprise that provides competitively priced auto, homeowners, farm, business, life and related forms of insurance in most U.S. states.  The company was founded upon the faith-based principles of the Mennonite, Brethren and related denominations.  MAX continues to follow their socially responsible, spiritually-based core values that direct it to be:

  • Spiritual and seeking guidance in all it does,
  • Stewards of the earth and its resources,
  • Servants in our communities, and
  • Compassionate to our members, their families and communities.

MAX practices its beliefs in two primary ways.

  1. It contributes a portion of all its premiums, plus outside gifts, to Mutual Aid Ministries, a project it operates which gives emergency financial help to people facing desperate circumstances beyond what insurance can provide.
  2. It is a cooperative that reports to its policy-holding members, not Wall Street.

“We believe that business can be profitable and still help others,” said David Wine, MAX President and CEO.  “We are committed to providing fair, faithful and socially responsible insurance products and to helping our fellow man at the same time.  Every year, we help hundreds of individuals and families as they deal with difficult emergencies.  We call that caring beyond the contract.”

What is a B-Corporation?

B Corp certification is to sustainable business what LEED certification is to green buildings or Fair Trade certification is to coffee. B Corps are certified by the nonprofit B Lab (www.bcorporation.net) to meet rigorous standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency.

Today, there is a growing community of more than 900 Certified B Corps from 29 countries and 60 industries working together toward one unifying goal: to redefine success in business.

MAX is a B-Corp trailblazer in the Midwest.  In Kansas and Missouri, there are only three other Certified B-Corporations—Ogden Publications, publisher of Mother Earth News and other journals, in Topeka, KS; and, Arnold Development Group and Big Vision Media Group in Kansas City.

MAX’s Roots in the Anabaptist Community

“Do you have to be Mennonite to get insurance with MAX?” is a frequent question we receive.

The simple answer to this question is “no”.

MAX does have its roots in the Anabaptist, i.e. Mennonite and Brethren communities.  Our heritage definitely stems out from these Anabaptist communities that practice a deep sense of kinship and care for one another.  When MAX was formed in 2000, it was created by ten different mutual aid organizations that were closely tied to the Mennonite/Brethren/Amish communities.  In fact, until 2010, members of MAX also had to be part of these Anabaptist communities.  In 2010, we opened our doors to all people of faith who share our values.  These values are written in our Statement of Shared Values and new members must agree to them before they have a policy issued through MAX.

These values include the following:

  • Applying love and wholeness towards others and responding to the needs of those around us
  • Nurturing an attitude of creating and sustaining wholeness in the use and application of all of God’s gifts including money, time, talents, health, and life
  • Promoting wholeness by embracing peaceful arbitration and mediation as the best way to settle disputes and conflicts
  • Practicing wholeness in our own lives by sharing our gifts and talents with others to build community and promote cooperation

We welcome Mennonites and anyone else who shares our values.  Contact us today for more information.  We’d be happy to help you be a part of MAX!
