MAX Staff Love Mutual Aid Ministries

Mutual Aid Ministries is the heart of MAX.  It was created to help bring wholeness to people facing extreme financial hardship.  By caring beyond the contract, we live our vision of creating and sustaining wholeness.  That’s what makes MAX so unique and that’s why our staff loves Mutual Aid Ministries.  We asked Kim, a member of our Finance team, why she loves Mutual Aid Ministries.  Check it out.

What do you think of MutualAid Ministries?
When I came to work for MAX almost two years ago, I was very excited to learn about Mutual Aid Ministries and how it brings wholeness to others in financial need. Rarely do you find an insurance company that will donate a portion of their own revenue to aid in the help of others. I had longed to be a part of an organization that actually makes a difference…which I found at MAX.

How do you look at Mutual Aid Ministries Grants?
Although so many of the stories I read about in our employee newsletter or hear about in our quarterly team meetings tear my heart out; I feel such pride to be part of an organization that actually cares about others and wants to help people when they are financially down and see no way out. I believe that we all have a moral obligation to help others, especially those in need.

MAX Canada Insurance Makes Unprecedented Gift to Mennonite Disaster Services for Ft. McMurray Rebuilding Effort

(September 28, 2016, Kitchener, ON) – A Canadian property/casualty insurance company with a unique approach to business is stepping up in a big way to help the people who were displaced by the devastating wild fire in Ft. McMurray, Canada.

In keeping with its commitment to helping others in crisis, MAX Canada Insurance Co., and its Mutual Aid Ministries (MAM) program have announced an unprecedented $80,000 gift to Mennonite Disaster Services to aid in the Ft. McMurray recovery efforts.

“MAM is the heart of MAX,” said Elaine Shantz, MAX Canada Board Chairman. “We are pleased to partner with MDS as their recovery teams help affected families get back on their feet.”

MAM is funded through top-line revenue contributions from MAX Canada. Over the years, it has helped countless individuals and families facing financial crises due to accidents, job loss or other unforeseen challenges. “We care beyond the contract by devoting a percentage of every premium to MAM. When we witnessed the heart-breaking devastation in Ft. McMurray we knew we had to help in a big way.”

The gift to MDS is the largest in the ministry’s history, said Shantz. “This crisis is unique in the annals of our program. It required a unique response.”

“We were blown away when MAX called us and said they were going to make this gift,” said Ross Penner, MDS’ Region 5 Director of Operations. “It is a very significant gift and it’s going to do so much to help Ft. McMurray recover. Specifically, we will use these funds to provide meals, food and supplies for the MDS volunteers who will be going to Ft. McMurray in the coming weeks.”

Penner explained that MDS volunteers will soon arrive in Ft. McMurray to begin rebuilding homes and businesses. “Our volunteers are an extraordinary group of caring people,” Penner said. “They are skilled workers who give freely of their time and talents to help others in need.”

ABOUT MENNONITE DISASTER SERVICE (MDS)
Mennonite Disaster Service is volunteer network of Anabaptist churches dedicated to responding to natural and man-made disasters in Canada and the United States.
Our aim is to assist the most vulnerable community members, individuals, and families who would not otherwise have the means to recover. MDS volunteers – men and women, youth and adults – provide the skills and labor needed to respond, rebuild and restore in the wake of a disaster.

MDS is known for having a collaborative spirit, and we work with other groups including faith-based organizations, local recovery committees, and both governmental and non-governmental agencies. MDS is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization.

MAX Vision and Mission

Our vision is creating and sustaining wholeness. What exactly does that mean for an insurance company? Well, the term wholeness refers to being complete, fulfilled and capable of living a healthy, happy, balanced life. At MAX, we believe the security and protections we provide through our products, services and Mutual Aid Ministries can help our members protect, create and sustain wholeness in their personal and professional lives.

Our mission states that we live out our vision of wholeness by preserving and restoring property, lives and communities through fair, faithful and socially responsible insurance programs, and Mutual Aid Ministries. We stand alongside our members as they create, build and sustain a life for themselves and their families. To do this, we educate our members to protect and preserve what they have through careful maintenance and safety precautions, and when there is a loss, we partner with them to help replace and restore wholeness in their lives. In extreme cases of loss or financial calamity, our unique Mutual Aid Ministries program is there to “Care Beyond the Contract”.

MAX Provides Grant to Help Purchase New Cancer Assistance Relief (CAR) Van

(Lexington, MO) — Area cancer patients will have a more reliable and comfortable ride to their out-of-town medical appointments, thanks to a $6,000 grant from MutualAid eXchange (MAX) Insurance and its Mutual Aid Ministries program.

The funds will help purchase a new, lower-mileage van for the Cancer Assistance Relief program (C.A.R.).  In conjunction with Trinity United Church of Christ, C.A.R. provides free transportation to cancer patients living in the 64067 zip code who need rides to their medical appointments in Greater Kansas City or other distant cities.   The current C.A.R. van has been on the road since 2011, averaging nearly 1,200 miles a month.  Volunteer drivers took local residents on 138 round trips in 2015 alone.

“We want to replace the current van in order to avoid potential breakdowns with ill patients on board,” said Betty Weddle of Letzig Group, Inc., and a founder of C.A.R.  “This grant will go a long way toward our goal.”  Letzig Group represents MAX in Lexington and surrounding areas.  Mrs. Weddle helped organize C.A.R. in memory of her husband, Bill Schwermer, who died of cancer in 1987.check presentation

“MAX is a fair, faithful and socially responsible insurance company that tries to give back in the communities we serve.  We are pleased and honored to help the residents of Lexington and the C.A.R. program with this grant,” said Dave Wine, CEO of MAX Insurance.  “Our Mutual Aid Ministries program provides grants to individuals in need and community programs that address the needs of their residents.  When Betty Weddle told us about the C.A.R. program we were more than happy to lend our support.  It’s a great service that helps many families at a critical time in their lives.”

MAX Mutual Aid Ministries Assists Elderly Woman with Expenses

Meet Linda, an elderly MAX member on a fixed income.  Linda’s property taxes have increased and she had several bills due that she could not pay. Linda’s church has helped Linda with her expenses over the past few winters and also purchases baked goods from Linda (which is one way she augments her income).  Mutual Aid Ministries partnered with her church by matching their grant towards Linda’s expenses.

Their pastor wrote the following:  “We are grateful to MAX Mutual Aid Ministries and the Share Fund grant was a God-send to help an elderly person in our congregation.  Thank you!”

About MAX and Mutual Aid Ministries:  Working primarily through churches and faith communities, MAX devotes a portion of our revenues to emergency grants for people in need of shelter, clothing, utilities, health care or other services insurance can’t provide.  Each year we help individuals and families regain wholeness.   Learn more here.
