MAX® reaches 20,000 Members Milestone

by Dave Wine, President & CEO

The MAX team is celebrating a new milestone – 20,000 members. The number 20,000 is special to MAX because it represents the continued strong growth of MAX and our ability to live out our vision of creating and sustaining wholeness for property, lives and communities.

20,000 represents a significant outreach of wholeness!   It represents that many households and even more persons that are now being served by MAX and can expect to be made whole in times of loss.  It represents thousands of communities that we can affect in positive ways through our insurance and mutual aid programs.  It means 20,000 members are being touched by our MAX agents and MAX team members.  We have the opportunity to extend care, wholeness, and support to thousands!

Thank you to our agency partners and each MAX member who chose MAX for their home and farm insurance needs.  We are proud to celebrate this 20,000 milestone with you.

Volunteering

by Terri Mooney-Hooker, Administrative Coordinator

When you think about volunteering, what comes to mind? What can you do to help out in your community? Where do you start? Volunteering your time to help others around your area, no matter what time of the year or occasion, can be very fulfilling as well as giving an opportunity to make a true difference in someone’s life.

There are many places and projects around your community that need volunteers. If you have a special place in your heart for something that might be a good place to start; nursing homes to help with the elderly, a hospital to help with the ill, animal shelters, school programs, and the list goes on and on…

You can also find websites online that list volunteer activities in your area. Here are a few:

Always be sure to be realistic about your availability. Remember, volunteering is of your time; do not allow it to interfere with work, home, or your sanity! Maybe try looking for places that let you interview before committing. This way you can discuss what volunteer opportunities they offer and the group’s needs, and see if you think it would be a good fit.

At MAX, one of our employee benefits is a week’s worth of paid volunteer time.  Team members enjoy giving their time to organizations that are important to them.  You can read more about where they volunteer on this page of our website.

Where do you volunteer?  We would love to hear our members’ and agents’ volunteer stories.

National Pecan Month

by Terri L Mooney-Hooker

April is National Pecan Month. Have you ever wondered what benefits pecans have or where do they even come from?  As a member of our Wellness Team at MAX, I decided to do some research about the pecan and its health benefits.

Did you know a one ounce serving of pecans, about 15 to 20 pieces, has many benefits?  According to the www.ilovepecans.org website, a serving of pecans:

  • Helps reduce the risk of heart disease and lowers cholesterol levels
  • Contains more than 19 essential vitamins and minerals
  • Naturally sodium free
  • High source of natural protein
  • Provided 10% of the recommended Daily Value for fiber

According to the U.S. Pecans website, pecans were originally called “nuez de la arruga” by Spanish explorers who came across them in what is now Louisiana, Texas, and Mexico. It translates to “wrinkle nut” for their appearance of wrinkles. The name “pecan” is a Native American word of Algonquin origin that was used to describe “all nuts requiring a stone to crack.”

Pecans are grown on trees and are grown commercially in 15 states within the U.S. including Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, Kansas, Louisiana, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, New Mexico, Oklahoma, South Carolina, and Texas.

Here is an easy and quick way from allrecipies.com to prepare a great pecan snack the whole family can enjoy.  I hope you can enjoy some pecans not only in April, but throughout the year!

Happy Heart of MAX Month

February is known for many things – Valentine’s Day, Heart Health Month, President’s Day and at MAX we dedicate February as the Heart of MAX Month.  What are we referring to?  Our Mutual Aid Ministries program!

Our Mutual Aid Ministries program is the Heart of MAX.  It’s what makes MAX different from other insurance companies.  By giving back to our agents’ communities, we help organizations that are doing good locally.  We call this our Agent Community Grant program.  In addition to these grants, Mutual Aid Ministries operates a non-profit which provides grants to individuals facing extreme hardships caused by job loss, health problems and other significant challenges.

So, on behalf of the MAX team, Happy Heart of MAX month!  If you want to learn more about Mutual Aid Ministries, click here or call us at 877-971-6300.

MAX Team Packed Boxes for Harvesters Holiday Fixin’s

By Anna Smith, CISR

The MAX team partnered with the KU Campus Christians house to participate in the Harvesters Holiday Fixin’s event again this year! With the assistance of MAX staff, MAX’s Mutual Aid Ministries contributions, and a few generous outside donations, we were able to pack up 99 boxes to provide a meal to families in need for the upcoming Christmas holiday. Everyone had a great time donating, collecting, and packing the boxes. We are thrilled to be a part of this great event. Harvesters Community Food Network is a wonderful non-profit organization that provides food and household items to more than 620 non-profit agencies within a 26-county area of Northwestern Missouri and Northeastern Kansas.
